Mantorville Farms and Terry Eckstein
The online store opened in 2008. At that time I was also operating a human resources consulting company. In addition to the two businesses, I was writing and publishing short stories. After 10 years, my HR clients were demanding more of my time, so I closed Mantorville Farms in 2018.
This year (2026) I turned 71 and decided I would rather write more books and sell products produced by my friends and neighbors. I shut down my consulting business and restarted Mantorville Farms.
In future emails I will tell you more about the online business and the people that make things happen at Mantorville Farms.

More about Terry:
Raised in a little northern Minnesota community where he attended the same public school from kindergarten through his senior year, Terry was immersed in small-town values with its small-town problems. His family owned a department store where he first started working, getting paid by candy bars, when he was six years old. Once a teenager, he was interacting with customers and solving problems. He learned how to deal with different types of people and their various temperaments. It was the perfect environment to prepare him for his career in human resources—the inspiration for his first novel, HR: Behind Closed Doors.
After college, he worked some years as a business manager but mostly as a human resource professional. He was employed by a variety of companies, from smaller 20-person privately-owned businesses to large Fortune 500 companies with 1000s of employees. This experience provided him with plenty of story material to draw from. “I wanted to write a novel about my career in Human Resources, but before I took on the task of writing a novel, I decided to write some short stories about my family dogs.”

The family-friendly THOMAS short story series and the HR novels are two distinct series that share the same cast of characters and are inspired by real events set in Mantorville. Originally, the first two THOMAS books (Gunshot in the Woods and Life with Judah) were written in the first person under the pen name Hank Thorson. Starting with the third book, Hubbell House Adventures, author Terry Eckstein transitioned to writing in the third person under his real name. Moving forward, the first two books are also being updated to officially credit Terry Eckstein as the author.
